To match the 3Cs of the curriculum statement we have some golden threads running throughout the planning and delivering of the primary curriculum planning, both in deliberate rehearsal of key knowledge and concepts to ensure entry to long-term memory, and also to ensure our daily practise holds true to the trust's intent.

This is all underpinned by the 绿洲 vision, ethos and 9 Habits. 我们的文化政策 is also embedded within all areas of our curriculum, including 英国价值 and Personal Development.

The 3Cs in the Secondary 课程

We develop character in all our children and young people by teaching them to reflect though the lens of the 绿洲 9 Habits. This develops through inclusive practice and ensuring excellent behaviour for learning by teaching students how to be safe and healthy and by focusing on the personal development and growth of our young people. This is done explicitly and implicitly throughout the curriculum and ensures that they are able to navigate life well, 有信心, knowing who they are (identity) and who they are becoming (purpose).

能力

We create competence in all our children and young people by enabling them to access the curriculum which is informed by the most recent research into the science of learning. This curriculum is accessed by all, with content being ambitiously challenging at every level so that all pupils reach their full potential through building deep knowledge structures, 渐进式技能, all enhanced by the use of technology.

Reading and vocabulary are deliberately featured in all sessions and resources as we know children’s chances of success in later life are heavily dependent on their acquisition of language and ability to access written text. We also know the importance of using books to open up the world to our young people and developing a love of literature for future learning and to understand the world around them. The innovative use of technology around our hybrid library means children are reading for pleasure, choice and breadth with texts pitched at the individual, optimum level to develop reading ability further.

社区

Understanding who you are and who you are becoming requires you to understand your place in time, 过去的, present and future and also your place in the world. We develop a sense community by enabling our children and young people to build their sense of belonging and also their responsibility as active participants in bringing positive change – locally, 国内和全球. 通过一个引人入胜的, relevant and contextualised curriculum, students develop respect for others and an appreciation of diversity and inclusivity and learn how to challenge and question underlying assumptions that reinforce injustices in the world. An integrated approach to Personal Development

Personal development is fundamental in our organisation as part of our culture and ethos. It is critical that we are constantly exploring who we are and how we are growing and changing to enhance the learning and maximise the potential of the children and young people in our communities. Personal Development is essential to ensuring that your child develops into a healthy, 快乐的年轻人.

We call this Personal Development and is timetabled explicitly to ensure that all students learn key knowledge and skills that will support them in making excellent choices for their future and to understand the world around them particularly in relation to their social and societal interactions. 我们的 implicit strand is 职业生涯 guidance, enrichment and extra-curricular. These are elements that are woven through different areas of the curriculum and different times of day. All students will benefit from our rich programme which enable them to develop a thirst for enthusiasm about many different elements of school. Learning and Technology: A blended approach

As part of our initiative to close the disadvantage gap in learning, we rolled out 绿洲的视野 in 2020-2021; every child from Reception to sixth form was given their very own iPad for use at school and at home. These iPad have become part of everyday life here at 绿洲 as our pupils use them throughout their school day and interact with their teachers through specially chosen teaching and learning apps. Horizons: 我们的 one-to-one device approach

There is varied research and findings on the usage of one-to-one devices in education, often this is because the devices are purchased but the use of them is not thought out clearly enough to deliberately enhance learning. In the OCL primary curriculum the devices are used alongside strong academic research into the science of learning, to further enhance what we know to be true about gaining new knowledge and skills. 我们的 staff are regularly trained on new updates and apps, so ensure we make the most of the computational analysis of the devices to enhance the expertise of teachers and learning in lessons.

Pupil and teacher workflows

A large consideration in the use of the Horizons devices is effective workflow from student to teacher and how pupils record (physically vs. electronically) to ensure an overview and ownership of their learning journey.

We use exercise books for the majority of our work, but sometimes work will be submitted electronically via the iPads. We use Microsoft Teams as our main workflow app, where student work can be collated by their teacher.

技术与评估

To make sure students receive consistent approaches and reduce stress or cognitive load, lesson content has been designed so use of 'Checking for Understanding' and 'Retrieval Practice' is familiar across the range of delivery types in the subjects. A range of apps and approaches have been selected to ensure students maximise learning time whilst giving teachers rich information about their learning in the moment and over time. 'Formative' is the main app that we use to support our quizzing both inside and outside of the classroom.
